October 23, 2007: Pre-Dinner Forum and Dinner Presentation

Pre-Dinner Forum: 4:30-5:30 PM

Topic: The Challenge of Rate Benchmarking for Contingent Labor
Sponsor: nextSource
Speakers: Joseph Musacchio, President & CEO, and Edward J. Remus, Senior Vice President

Since the advent of the contingent labor industry, buyers of contingent labor have struggled to determine and understand the competitiveness of the contingent workerís bill rates that are charged by the staffing agencies. With the increasing use of contingent labor as a strategic resource and the corresponding increase in a corporation's spend for contingent labor, it is even more critical today to be able to attract the most qualified talent while insuring competitive pay and bill rates for this talent.

Many suppliers have addressed compensation benchmarking for full time hires. However, due to the unique complexities of contingent labor, none of these suppliers have attempted to provide benchmarking services for this segment of the workforce. Since the benchmarking and tracking of contingent labor rates does not lend itself to the traditional survey approach to compensation for full time workers, there is a void that buyers of contingent labor have tried to address in a variety of ways. Unfortunately, the methods employed to date have been time consuming and largely dependent on outdated information or information furnished by the very staffing agencies that the buyers are attempting to control. Based on nextSource's research and experience, it was obvious that buyers and HR professionals needed a methodology that would provide information that would allow them to make educated decisions regarding salaries and bill rates consistent with the current market for the required skill sets. During their presentation nextSource will discuss the various methods that users have employed to benchmark contingent labor rates as well as nextSourceís solution to this challenge that has been effectively used by their customers.

Under Joseph Musacchio's leadership, nextSource has become a world-class procurement solutions company by providing a single source for our customers' human capital needs through its 'Wheel of Services.' The People Ticker, a reverse ìpeople auction,î vendor management programs and the Multiple Listing Staffing Association are among the products and services offered through the 'Wheel of Services.' Prior to joining nextSource in 1998, Mr. Musacchio spent five years as a Senior Vice President for a major international staffing firm where he led the development of a Vendor Management "Procurement Solution" for a leading telecommunications company. Mr. Musacchio holds a B.S. degree from the State University of New York.

Edward Remus is responsible for the successful planning, deployment and continuing support of nextSource's vendor management programs as well as all aspects of procurement for nextSource. Mr. Remus joined nextSource in 2001 and brings more than 30 years of business and procurement experience to nextSource from his positions at Bell Labs, AT&T and Lucent Technologies. During his tenure at Lucent Technologies, he was responsible for the implementation of a Vendor Management Solution encompassing nearly 10,000 contingent workers worldwide. Mr. Remus received a B.S. degree in Business from King's College (Wilkes-Barre, PA) and an M.B.A. from Seton Hall University.

Topic: Trends in the Paper and Forest Products Industries
Speakers: Mark T. Watkins, Senior Vice President, MeadWestvaco, and Ron Sasine, Vice President, MeadWestvaco

While paper products come in several forms and serve many functions, there are a number of common trends in the dynamic and varied global market for forest-industry products. Representatives from MeadWestvaco will discuss the impact of globalization on the market for fiber-based resources and the increasing focus on sustainable industry best practices.

Globalization has introduced international fiber to the domestic market, increased the number of producers and intensified the importance of global trade in the forest products industry. Meanwhile, the mandate for sustainable practices that ensure meaningful environmental, social and commercial performance has grown stronger as customers and consumers demand sustainable products and business products.

MeadWestvaco's vast global footprint and substantial expertise in sustainable forestry has been a strong influence on the entire pulp, paper and packaging industry for decades. Two experts from MeadWestvaco will discuss the company's transition from a traditional paper producer to a global leader in packaging solutions, and provide insights into the trends that influence purchasing decisions in the forest products industry.

Mark T. Watkins is Senior Vice President of MeadWestvaco with responsibility for corporate engineering, corporate safety, health and environment, the Specialty Papers Division and the Forestry Division. Previously, he served as vice president of technology for the Mead Corporation, which he joined in 1997 as vice president of Michigan operations for the Publishing Paper Division, where he had oversight of the Escanaba, Michigan, paper mill and related woodland and sawmill operations. In 1999, he was promoted to vice president of human resources and organizational development for the Paper Division. Mr. Watkins was appointed vice president of technology for Mead in 2000. His responsibilities included central research, central engineering and the corporate safety, health and environmental group. Mr. Watkins began his career in the paper industry in 1977 when he joined Union Camp at its Franklin, Virginia, mill as a process engineer.

Ron Sasine is Vice President of Business Development for MeadWestvaco Health & Beauty Packaging, part of MeadWestvacoís Consumer Solutions Group, where he focuses on building consumer brands through distinctive packaging. Previously, Mr. Sasine spent seven years in Brazil, where he was responsible for marketing and corporate strategy at Rigesa Limitada, a major corrugated packaging and folding-carton company.
