Topic: Supplier Diversity and its Impact on a Social Responsibility Program

Diversity is becoming increasingly important in the strategic planning process for business and supply management professionals. Many companies believe that Diversity in the marketplace and in their workforce is now a core competency critical to a successful supply chain and creates a competitive advantage. The panelists will discuss these statements and provide an overview of how Diversity relates to the seven core principles of Social Responsibility as defined by the Institute of Supply Management. They will also discuss the importance of being proactive in establishing appropriate Diversity processes.

ANDREAS ARNOLD is the Director of Strategic Sourcing and Procurement for The Walt Disney Company, Media Networks Business Segment. He joined Disney in 1996 as a Purchasing Agent for ABC TV. In 1998, became the Manager of Procurement for ESPN, and has held his current title since 2001. He is responsible for developing and implementing the Sourcing Vision and Strategy for ABC TV Network, ABC Owned Stations Group, ESPN, and Disney Cable Networks Group. His focus is predominantly in the area of Broadcast Technology but his team handles all of the Media Networks requirements from Post Production Services to Print to Dirt (XGames), an annual spend of approximately $800M. For the last 3 years Mr. Arnold and his team have delivered in excess of $55M in cumulative savings to their stakeholders. Prior to joining Disney in 1996, Mr. Arnold spent 9 years in procurement with various companies in the defense industry and was responsible for sourcing everything from injection moldings to electronic components to contract labor. For the majority of those years, his focus was on automating procurement processes and seeking alternative sources of supply for long lead and high cost items.

JUDY BARANOWSKI is Corporate Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer for Motorola's Integrated Supply Chain, which encompasses the global operations associated with procurement, new product introduction, manufacturing, customer fulfillment and repair. She previously served as Corporate Vice President of Quality for the Integrated Supply Chain. Prior to joining Motorola in June 2005, Ms. Baranowski served as a Director of AlixPartners LLC, a consulting firm specializing in corporate turnarounds and operational performance improvement. While there, her key focus areas for clients centered on strengthening quality, manufacturing, supply chain processes and strategic sourcing. Prior to AlixPartners, Ms. Baranowski served as director of supply chain management for Eaton Corporationís electrical division, where she led 35 Six Sigma black belts and more than 1,000 employees. She chaired Eaton's enterprise-wide quality council, which expanded the companyís application of Lean Six Sigma manufacturing principles and the adoption of balanced scorecards. Before joining Eaton, Ms. Baranowski was Vice President for Supply Chain Management at Allied Signal/Honeywell. She has extensive experience in the automotive and electronics industries, having served in management roles for quality or supply chain at ITT Automotive, TRW and Ford Motor Company.

WENDY LEWIS is Vice President of Strategic Planning for Recruitment and Diversity for Major League Baseball (MLB), Office of the Commissioner. Her responsibilities include directing the recruitment and workforce strategy for MLB's Central Office and its 30 member Clubs. As head of Recruitment, Ms. Lewis also directs the workforce diversity initiatives, analysis and reporting for the Commissioner's Office and its franchise owners, a key element of the strategic plan for MLB's workforce and marketplace diversity objectives. In 2006, she led the team that developed MLB's new talent pipeline, the Executive Development Program, a rotational career development program whose goal is to add to MLB's high-potential talent pool as well as establish a platform for succession planning. Ms. Lewis also leads MLB's Diverse Business Partners Program, an economically-driven initiative established to cultivate new and existing partnerships with minority-owned and women-owned businesses. Ms. Lewis directs the activities that ensure that a greater number of businesses have an opportunity to participate in the procurement process for desired goods and services. Since the formation of MLB's Diverse Business Partners Program, well over $400 million dollars have been spent with thousands of minority-owned and women-owned businesses. Ms. Lewis has a BS in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin and an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Her accomplishments have been recognized by various organizations, including the Black Women in Sports Foundation, which presented her with the Legends Award. She has also received the Schaffner Award for preeminence in her field and outstanding service from Northwestern University, the Pioneer Award from the National Association of Black Journalists, MIB's (Minorities in Business) annual award for outstanding effort in diversity within sports and "The Effie Manley Sports Executive of the Year", presented by Rainbow/PUSH. Additionally, Wendy has been honored by The Network Journal as one of the "25 Influential Black Women in Business" and has been listed as one of Sports Illustrated's "Most Influential Minorities in Sports". Other recognitions include The Diversity Champion of the Year for Sports from the Urban Financial Services Coalition and the Women of Distinction Award from the Girl Scouts of New York.

RALPH G. MOORE, CPA, is President of Ralph G. Moore & Associates (RGMA), a Chicago-based management consulting firm. Founded in 1979, RGMA is one of the nation's premier change management firms specializing in integrating supplier diversity into corporate strategy and the formation of diverse strategic alliances. The company provides corporate clients an array of supplier diversity services including new program development, program assessments, workshops and seminars, senior management briefings and benchmarking services. A former accountant at Arthur Andersen & Co., Mr. Moore has been a key contributor to minority business development seminars throughout the United States as well as South Africa, Canada and the United Kingdom. Clients include Ogilvy & Mather, Novo Nordisk, Time Warner, UBS and Wal-Mart. Mr. Moore has received numerous awards for his dedication to minority business development and his active leadership in civic organizations. In addition, Mayor Richard M. Daley appointed Mr. Moore to serve as a Trustee to the City Colleges of Chicago in 1994 where he still serves. Mr. Moore is also a Trustee of the University of Chicago Medical Center. Mr. Moore graduated with honors from Southern Illinois University with a B.S. Degree in Accounting.

MICHAEL VALENTINI, C.P.M. is the Managing Director, Procurement Services for Citigroup, the leading global financial services company, which provides consumers, corporations, governments and institutions with a broad range of financial products and services. As Managing Director, he is responsible for Procurement Services, which includes strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, order fulfillment, supplier and contract management, supplier risk management, and supplier diversity. He is a 13-year veteran of Citigroup and in 2002 led the successful global deployment of a standard Procure to Pay (P2P) system across the company. Prior to joining Citigroup, Mr. Valentini began his professional career with American Express in the Procurement function.

KEITH HINES is Director of Supplier Development for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), responsible for developing and directing PwC's supplier diversity program and supporting various supply chain initiatives. Mr. Hines has a dual reporting role, with accountability to Purchasing and Human Resources Diversity. Prior to joining PwC he was director of purchasing for Cushman and Wakefield, a global real estate firm. In this capacity he managed the supply chain in North America, Canada and the United Kingdom. He was also charged with creating a supplier diversity program. Mr. Hines' first job in New York was as manager of corporate purchasing for Altria Corporate Services, where his responsibilities included managing purchasing for all corporate locations in North America. He also served as the chairperson of the supplier diversity task force for The Altria family of companies, which included Kraft Foods and Philip Morris USA. During his tenure, Altria received the coveted Corporation of the Year from the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). Mr. Hines has served on the National Minority Supplier Development Council as well as the Women's Business Enterprise National Council.
